Laundry rooms can be surprisingly risky for cats because they bring together three things many cats cannot resist: warmth, enclosed spaces, and interesting smells. The danger is not the laundry room itself. It is the mix of machines, detergents, dryer sheets, and small hiding places that can turn an ordinary chore into a serious pet-safety issue.

For cat owners, the most important point is simple: check before every cycle. A washer or dryer that looks empty from the outside may still be tempting to a cat looking for a quiet place to nap.

The machine is the biggest immediate danger

Cats often seek out warm, dark, enclosed places. That makes an open dryer or front-loading washing machine more appealing than many owners realize.

Clean floors can still carry residue
